Juliani Educational Outreach Program

Chicago enjoys a plethora of musical opportunities for its residents. The Juliani Ensemble strives to make sure all residents have equal access to these opportunities. Music education and instrumental training are extracurricular activities that have high financial requirements for participation but are also an activities integral to a comprehensive education. The cost of renting or purchasing an instrument alone can be prohibitive for families. Additional costs such as music, teachers and traveling to and from lessons and tuition to any organizations such as youth orchestras can mean that music education is out of reach for many students who would otherwise be eager to learn.

Our outreach program sets out to address the needs of our community by providing opportunities for students to expand their music skill and knowledge with extremely high quality artists and instructors. The program solves many of the financial and geographical hurdles that usually prevent students from musical extracurriculars. Our program provides music, instruments and lessons and instruction on violin, viola, flute, cello and other instruments that students request to learn.

Our program follows a typical school year program with activities beginning in October and continuing until May of the next year. classes begin this year in October 2023 and end in May 2024. The program is conducted in tandem with Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP) with program activities take place at their Mayfair Arts Center, located within the student demographic's community, to be as accessible for students as possible. The program consists of group classes for beginners and private lessons for more advanced students. Through our program, the Juliani Ensemble provides free music lessons to students of all backgrounds in the Chicago south side area.
