Skandalkonzert!: Controversy, Stravinsky and Debussy
September 20
12:00pm
Primitive, 3rd floor
Concert Program
Our season-opening salon takes inspiration from the infamous “scandal concert” of 1913. This Viennese concert, conducted by Arnold Schoenberg, featured new works by composers whose works were so experimental for the early 20th century that it caused an uproar from the audience members, who ended the concert prematurely by breaking into a riot. We hope you’ll remain in your seat as we perform works by composers who were themselves no strangers to controversy. You’ll hear from the Renaissance composer/part-time murderer Carlo Gesualdo, the king of musical riots, Igor Stravinsky, and the perpetually situationship-prone Claude Debussy.
Witness the passionate, outrageous, often uproarious side of the arts.
